External trade statistics are based on data produced by the General Department of Customs of Mongolia. Commodity groups and product nomenclature are classified according to the “Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System”, developed by the World Customs Organization.

Calculation method
Total foreign trade turnover is the sum of exports and imports. Foreign trade balance is the difference between exports and imports of goods and services. It means if the balance is (-) negative it has a deficit and if the balance is (+) positive it has a surplus. Exports of goods are goods which subtract to the stock of material resources of a country by leaving its economical territory. Imports of goods are goods which add to the stock of material resources of a country by entering its economic territory.
